Plagiarism Policy

Plagiarism Policy

The Journal of Health Research Advancement and Genomics (JHRAG) is committed to upholding the highest standards of academic integrity and originality in scholarly publishing. Plagiarism, in any form, is a serious ethical violation and is strictly prohibited.

1. Definition of Plagiarism
Plagiarism is the act of presenting someone else’s work, ideas, data, or words as one’s own without appropriate acknowledgment. It includes, but is not limited to:

2.Types of  Plagiarism:
  • Direct Plagiarism – Copying text word-for-word without citation.
  • Self-Plagiarism – Reusing one’s own previously published work without disclosure.
  • Paraphrasing Plagiarism – Rewriting someone else’s ideas without proper attribution.
  • Mosaic Plagiarism – Mixing copied phrases from different sources without citation.
  • Accidental Plagiarism – Unintended failure to cite or quote sources correctly.
  • Source-Based Plagiarism – Misrepresenting or fabricating sources.
  • Data Plagiarism – Using others' data or results without permission or credit.
  • Complete Plagiarism – Submitting someone else’s entire work as one’s own

3. Detection and Screening:
All manuscripts submitted to JHRAG undergo a rigorous plagiarism screening process using advanced similarity detection software (e.g., Turnitin, iThenticate, or equivalent). A similarity index above 18%, excluding references, quotes, and small matches, may raise concern and be subject to further editorial review.

4. Acceptable Similarity
Minor overlap in methodology or commonly used phrases in scientific writing may be acceptable if properly cited. However, verbatim copying or close paraphrasing without citation is not tolerated. Authors are advised to ensure originality in all sections of the manuscript, including the introduction, discussion, and conclusion.

5. Editorial Actions in Case of Plagiarism
If plagiarism is detected at any stage—pre-publication or post-publication—the following actions may be taken depending on the severity:

6. Immediate rejection of the manuscript
  • Request for revision and proper citation if overlap is deemed unintentional
  • Notification to the authors' affiliated institution
  • Retraction of the published article in case of confirmed post-publication plagiarism
  • Blacklisting of authors for future submissions in severe cases
  • COPE Compliance- All cases are handled in accordance with COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines
7. Author Responsibility
All authors are responsible for ensuring the originality of their work and for correctly citing the work of others. Authors must declare that the manuscript is free from plagiarism and has not been submitted elsewhere.

8. Appeals and Clarifications
Authors who disagree with the editorial decision related to plagiarism may appeal by providing clarification and evidence. The Editorial Board will review the appeal, and its decision will be final.

9. Policy Review
This plagiarism policy is subject to periodic review and updates to reflect emerging standards and practices in academic publishing.

10.A Call for Ethical Scholarship
Maintaining research integrity is a shared responsibility. We appreciate the vigilance of our authors, reviewers, and readers in upholding these standards. By adhering to this policy, we collectively foster a transparent, credible, and ethical scholarly publishing environment.
